FAQs

  • Fill out my Meet and Greet Form completely and submit that. Once that is submitted and read over, we will reach out for next steps.

  • I host all of my meet and greets at Waterworks Park in Collegeville located behind the Trappe Shopping Center that has the Goodwill, Dollar Tree and more!

Once you are contacted about your inquiry we will make arrangements that works for both of our schedules to meet and have our dogs meet. The in-person meet and greet is the second step in my process.

  • Yes! I have a 5-year-old English Bulldog named Matilda Jean, Tilly for short. I adopted her in May 2020 and she has been the best second shop dog I could ever ask for. She reads other dogs and their energies very well and has been doing meet and greets with me, several a week since she moved in. Tilly does have a degenerative eye disease called Entropion which is an eye disease that some dogs are born with where they have a third eye lid that is constantly causing irritation to the eye and if not corrected can cause severe damage to the cornea and the eye as a whole. She had surgery in July 2021 and it was caught fairly early, but Tilly has some trouble with depth perception, shadows and seeing in low or darkly lit places. Once she knows you and your dog by scent her vision impairment doesn’t seem to bother her much. She does make odd noises when she gets excited, sassy and has a lot on her mind that she wants to share. It is a cross between a dolphin and a pterodactyl cry, so i always warn new meet and greet friends to not be alarmed by her being loud and having a lot to say during the beginning part of the meet and greet. Tilly loves to do typical bulldog activities such as eat, snooze, and play with toys that have the highest pitch squeak. When she wants to, she tolerates walks and laying outside on the porch. If she is really excited by a new dog friend, or if one of her regular friends comes over for a stay, she will get the zoomies and engage in many play sessions and wrestle matches, all supawvised by mom!

  • If you and your dog pass the in-person meet and greet the next step is to schedule a trial overnight. This ideally should be scheduled 2-3 weeks before you would be leaving to go on a vacation or looking to books several days of boarding with us. This allows me to observe your dogs behavior in a new and strange environment, with a new person and new dog(s). This is a required for all new dogs because I need to see if there are any indications that your dog is not going to be comfortable staying in my space with Tilly, and any new dogs that would be booked at the same time.

  • I use an app called Pocketsuite for all booking, requests, communications and payments. It is a free download and is simple to use and navigate.

  • For new clients who have not been through the in person meet and greet process and mandatory trial overnight, no.

For current and vetted clients who have passed all required processes, if I have availability and space for their dog last minute, yes.

  • All new dogs need to be spayed or neutered and have all of their rounds of vaccinations (if they are a puppy) and be up to date on their booster shots if they are older than one year. Your dog also needs to be up to date on a flea and tick preventative.

Roam Away From Home requires all pets under their care to be free of fleas, ticks, and other pests.

  • I can have up to 6 dogs at one time, but typically have an average of 2-3 consistently. I get booked and busy starting in mid to late February with school Spring Break weeks and typically do not stop until early September. Holidays are booked well in advanced and all throughout the summer I am booked 7 days a week!

I am very particular with who I allow to pass my meet and greet process, which is why there are so many steps. I am a smaller, more intimate and one-on-one pet care provider and take great pride in providing the best and safest care for your furry family member. I read body language and cues on dogs and humans very well, so I will know quickly if I, and my business is not a good fit for your dog. I always say to potential new clients on meet and greet that if their dog “fails” to not take it personally. Not every pet care provider is a perfect fit for every dog, and vice versa.

  • Crates are not required, but they are preferred if your dog is crate trained. I wholeheartedly believe crates are friends, not something your dog should fear or dislike. Your dog will never be forced to be in their crate as Roam Away From Home is a roam free space. I have plenty of dog beds, couches and soft carpeted areas for your pup to crash on when its lights out for the whole pack. Crates are preferred to give everyone their own space to decompress from a fun day and get some much needed rest throughout the night.

  • I try and keep each dog as close to their normal schedules as possible, which includes exercise. There are numerous potty and sniff breaks to relieve bladders each day, typically every 2-3 hours, more often if they are a puppy.

I do at least 2, 30-minute walks, one in the morning right after breakfast and the second one right after dinner. If the weather permits I will do a mid-day or early evening walk.

In the event of extreme weather such as high heat or freezing temperatures, I will allow for as much exercise as can be done outside that is safe for your dog. In the event of inclement weather preventing outdoor exercise I will provide kongs, lick mats, and other mentally stimulating activities to tire your pup out!

  • My goal is to encourage all pet parents to enjoy and relax on their vacations and time away from their pets.

I will update via the Pocketsuite app at least 2-3 times a day with photos and what their pets have been doing.

Trust that your pet misses you, but wants you to relax and let them have their own vacation at Roam Away From Home!
